UNAA To Celebrate 64th Anniversary Of Nigeria’s Membership Of United Nations

The United Nations Association of Africa (UNAA) has announced plans to commemorate the 64th anniversary of Nigeria’s membership in the United Nations (UN).

Nigeria officially became a member of the United Nations on October 7, 1960. According to the association, this milestone deserves celebration, given Nigeria’s pivotal role within the global body—particularly in promoting peace and conflict resolution across Africa and beyond.

Speaking to journalists, the Chairman of UNAA’s Board of Directors, Amb. Dr. Emmanuel Nkweke, revealed that the anniversary event will also feature the appointment of Her Excellency, Amb. Alanyingi Sylva, former First Lady of Bayelsa State, as the Executive Secretary of the Association. In addition, other distinguished Nigerians will be appointed to key offices within the organization.

Amb. Nkweke explained that the association, which is incorporated in the United States, is dedicated to fostering unity among African nations and advancing the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) across the continent. He emphasized that with limited time left to realize the SDGs, it is crucial to intensify collective efforts to meet the targets within the set timeframe.
